There's nothing worse than being bogged deep on a track, reaching for the winch controller, and hearing nothing but a sad 'click'. Nine times out of ten, that's your solenoid packing it in. The solenoid is the main switch for your winch, handling all the heavy-duty power from your battery. When it fails from water, mud, or just hard use, your winch becomes a very heavy front bumper ornament. Don't get caught out with unreliable gear when you or your mates are counting on it.

If your winch works in one direction but not the other, then you may have a faulty solenoid. However this can also be caused by a faulty Motor. so be sure to get it checked out before you buy new parts for your winch.
