This heater core is located within the heater box assembly, deep inside the dashboard of your vehicle. It functions as a small radiator that transfers heat from the engine's hot coolant to the air being blown into the cabin, providing warmth and defrosting capabilities. A replacement is necessary when the original unit becomes blocked, damaged, or starts to leak.
A failing heater core can cause several issues. You might notice a sweet, coolant smell inside the cabin, perpetually foggy windows with a greasy film, or a wet passenger-side floorboard. If left unaddressed, a leaking heater core can lead to significant coolant loss, risking engine overheating and severe, costly engine damage. A blocked core will leave you without a functioning heater or demister, which is a safety hazard in cold or wet conditions.
