The original rubber hoses are constantly exposed to high temperatures, pressure, and oil vapour from the engine's crankcase ventilation system. This causes the rubber to perish, becoming hard and brittle or soft and swollen. This degradation eventually leads to cracks and splits in the hoses, causing a boost leak.
If you don't replace a failing intercooler hose, the resulting boost leak can lead to a significant loss of power, poor fuel economy, and excessive black smoke from the exhaust.
