This thermal switch sensor is located in the bottom tank of the radiator on a Y61 GU Patrol fitted with a TD42 or TD42T engine. Its job is to accurately read the coolant temperature and send that signal to the vehicle's computer. A faulty or failed sensor can send incorrect readings, or no reading at all. This is a critical part for managing your engine's temperature, particularly for controlling the auxiliary electric fan operation. If this sensor fails, your fan may not engage when needed, leading to overheating and potential engine damage like a warped cylinder head, especially when working the vehicle hard off-road or towing.
