This is the Valve that goes on the intake and opens and closes as required by the ECU to cycle the Exhaust Gas recirculation.
it is common for these to gunk up with engine carbon deposits, oil fumes etc.
it is common for people to Block them off so that the exhaust gas can't enter the intake- however of the valve has failed then this will still bring the engine light on and sometimes put the vehicle in limp mode.
