This is the clutch release bearing that is pressed onto the bearing carrier.
Whenever you have the gearbox out of your vehicle this bearing should be inspected and replaced if needed, even just replaced as a precaution while it is all apart as its a time consuming process pulling a gearbox out and back in again.
This bearing when it needs replacing is known to make a ticking sound when the clutch is pressed in.
