This distributor cap is fitted to the top of the distributor housing in the engine bay. It acts as a cover for the rotor and provides the contact points to send high-voltage sparks to the correct spark plug leads, ensuring the engine's cylinders fire in the correct sequence. Replacement is necessary when the original cap becomes worn, cracked, or when the internal metal terminals corrode from heat and electrical arcing.
