This lower sump, or oil pan, is located at the very bottom of your ZD30CR engine. It acts as the reservoir for your engine oil, collecting it after it has circulated so the oil pump can redistribute it to lubricate and cool critical engine components. As the lowest point of the engine, the sump is highly vulnerable to impacts from rocks and other off-road hazards. A significant dent can reduce oil capacity or obstruct the oil pickup, while a crack or puncture will cause a major oil leak.
