This Genuine Nissan Universal Joint is a critical driveline component located at either end of the front tailshaft (propeller shaft) on your Nissan Patrol GQ. It connects the tailshaft to the transfer case and the front differential, allowing it to articulate with the suspension's movement while transferring drive to the front wheels. Over time, the internal needle bearings can wear out from constant use and exposure to the elements, leading to play in the driveline.
A worn universal joint often presents as a clunking or clicking sound when shifting into drive or reverse, or a noticeable vibration that gets worse with speed. If left unattended, a failing universal joint can completely break apart. This can cause the front tailshaft to detach from the vehicle while in motion, leading to catastrophic damage to the transmission, transfer case, and underbody, and a severe loss of vehicle control.
