This gasket is fitted to the top of the fuel injector, creating a seal where the injector body passes through the engine's rocker cover. The original seals are exposed to constant heat cycles which causes them to go hard, become brittle and fail. A leaking injector upper gasket will result in engine oil pooling on top of the rocker cover around the base of the injector.

If you don't replace a failed gasket, it will continue to leak oil, making a mess of your engine bay and potentially allowing dirt and water ingress into the valve train area.
