This cotter pin goes on the linkage where the transfer case selector joins to the transfer case to lock it into place.
These can be very difficult to remove as they are a tapered wedge and when you do up the nut it pulls it tight.
They are common to rust in and heat is a good way to remove them.
If they are really rusted up or damaged, it is highly recommended they be replaced.
